Hey Guys! I can't believe that October is already over and we are moving into the second week of November! This year has flown by!!! It's crazy that I will be decorating for Christmas in a few short weeks. With that being said, I just posted my "October Hits" video on YouTube and that means it's time to do the corresponding blog entry. Some of the products featured in this months video are repeats of products that I spoke about in my "September Hits" blog post so I won't bore you with the details about those; if you need a recap just read last months blog post or check out the video. I will list them at the bottom of this post just as a reference. So, let's just get started....
I think that I have found the perfect moisturizer (for me) and I couldn't be happier. I am currently using the Loreal Ideal Moisture Day Lotion with SPF 25 ($6.49) and it's amazing. I have dry skin so I was happy to see that they carried it in a variety of formulas and one being for dry skin. This claims to have 48 hour hydration and I can honestly say that my skin feels hydrated all day long when I use this under my foundation. It's oil free and is infused with Vitamin E antioxidant. It's very light weight and absorbs quickly so you can just apply your foundation right over top of it without waiting forever for it to absorb. I also use this at night after removing all of my make-up instead of using a heavy cream moisturizer. I get enough hydration from this so I am pleased. I also love the scent because it's "girly" without being too overwhelming. They have an entire line and it's called their "Ideal" line that comes with cleansers, towelettes and moisturizers with 3 formulas; All skin types, dry skin and sensitive skin. I would highly recommend this if you are currently looking for a lightweight moisturizer for Fall/Winter.
Well, once again, I have had to change foundations. I find one that I love and then my skin just acts crazy. None of them have ever broke me out but my skin tends to dry out easy which leaves my foundation looking like a hot mess. I was browsing the aisles at CVS since I had a few CVS bucks to spare and I ran across the Maybelline Dream Smooth Mousse ($8.99). The thing that first caught my eye was I noticed it said "ultra hydrating" on the package. That's definitely what I was looking for but I was skeptical because I have never been a huge Maybelline foundation fan. I decided to buy it because I had the CVS bucks and I wasn't going to be out any money if it didn't work. I got it home and opened it and I was in shock; it looked like one oily mess. It was shiny in the packing and looked/felt oily when I glided my finger across the compact. However, once I applied it I was shocked because it didn't look that way on my face and it blended nicely without magnifying my pores. This is more of a medium coverage even though it states it's medium-full coverage but I am okay with it. This does give a dewey effect so if you tend to have oily skin then I would steer clear of this foundation because you will be disappointed.
Recently many of you YouTube guru's have been chatting about colored mascaras and I have been eyeing them but afraid to purchase them because let's face it....they scream 1980's. While I was at Target I hit their clearance bins and I noticed they had several limited edition colors from Maybelline. They were marked down to less than $3 and originally they were $6 so I figured why not pick up a few of the colors. I have had so much fun with these and I've been pleasantly surprised with them. The one I have used the most in October was the "I See Blue" which is basically an electric blue mascara. I was VERY skeptical at first because I didn't want to look like a complete idiot but every single time I wear it someone compliments me on my mascara. They can never quiet pin point what it is about my eye make-up that is different (in a good way) and it's the blue mascara. I wear this when I have something blue on because I have this thing about matching; call me weird. It gives just a hint of color to your lashes without screaming your stuck in the 80's! I usually apply one coat of my normal black mascara first and then put a coat or two of this on top of it. It isn't waterproof but I have not had an issue with it and it doesn't irritate my super sensitive eyes. So, if you are in the market for a fun mascara to wear on the weekend try the Great Lash Maybelline LE colored mascaras! They came out in August so I am not sure if all stores carry them as Target was already clearancing them out last month.
I have been wanting to try a red lipstick forever but I have been afraid to because I always felt intimated by them. I never thought I would be able to pull it off and I would look like a 5 year old playing in her Momma's lipsticks. After spending literally an hour looking at lipsticks in CVS, I came out with the Maybelline Color Sensational color in Red Revival ($7.79). This is a beautiful shade of red that is creamy, bold and moisturizing. It is a blue toned red so it's a bit cooler than your orange based reds. I would definitely use a lip liner with this because I had an issue with a small amount of bleeding. I also had to reapply once during the day but overall I am very happy with this red shade and you can't complain when it makes your teeth a shade lighter which reds do if you didn't know that already :) I am looking forward to using this color throughout fall & winter -- it's a pretty shade for the holidays!
I think I have found a whitening toothpaste that actually works and doesn't hurt my teeth and gums like most of them have. I tried the Crest 3D White Luxe in Glamorous White ($4.99) last month and it's amazing! It claims that it "removes 90% of surface stains in 5 days" and it honestly works! I noticed a difference and so did my daughter; we both have sensitivity issues and this hasn't been a problem for us. It isn't harsh or abrasive and it leaves your mouth feeling super clean and brighter. I have never been able to use whitening toothpastes until now and I am glad that I finally found one that I can use. I didn't even know they had a sensitive formula in this until I looked online for pricing and it seems they do so if you are afraid this may be too harsh then you can look at purchasing that one but I have had NO issues with this formula and I have super sensitive teeth and gums. I will definitely keep repurchasing this as long as it works and I don't run into any sensitivity issues.
I have been using the E.L.F. Studio Line Brushes ($3.00) for a while now I can't tell you how impressed I am with them! They are high quality brushes that won't cost you an arm and a leg. I have used the pricier brushes like Sigma and Mac and I can honestly say that these work just as good. They are dense brushes that pack on a lot of color, they don't shed and withstand multiple washings. You can find these at your local Target but for a broader selection visit their online store. Beware: E.L.F. has another line that has white handled brushes that are only $1 -- these are CRAP so do not waste your money on them. They fall apart and are pretty much worthless so spend the extra two bucks and buy the black handled brushes. I really don't know what else to say about these studio line brushes other than I am completely impressed with them and you should go out and purchase yourself all of them, lol.
I have been eyeing the Tarte Inner Rim Eye Brightener pencil but forking over the $20 for it pains me. I have done research online and came across a dupe for the Tarte pencil and that's the Scandaleyes by Rimmel in nude ($3.97). Holy smokes, this stuff is awesome! You apply it to the inner rim of your bottom lid and you instantly get the effect of being wide awake! Your eyes are brighter and you just look more refreshed -- or like you just had 10 cups of coffee. This eyeliner is a creamy, highly pigmented pencil that is waterproof. It goes on smooth and lasts all day. I have never used an eyeliner that's so creamy and it made me want to go back and buy the other colors that Rimmel offers in the Scandaleyes line. So, if your eyes need a pick-me-up then go out and buy this pencil because it's a quick fix to those tired eyes us Momma's get on a daily basis.
I bought three colors from the Maybelline Color Tattoo Pure Pigment line ($6.99) and my favorite has been "Improper Copper" by far. I use it several times a week and it's just a beautiful shade of brown with shimmery copper pigments. I was afraid to use these because I have never used loose pigments before and I will be honest and tell you it took me a while to get used to applying them. They are loose pigments so you can have a huge mess on your hands if you're not careful. When you are applying this to your eyeshadow brush be careful to apply just a small amount and tap your brush several times before applying because if not you will have a ton of fallout under your eyes. These are highly pigmented and they go on super smooth, they are also very blendable. It states that it has 24 hour staying power and yes, it stays all day but it seems to fade by the time I remove my make-up. I am not sure I would purchase anymore of the loose pigments because out of the three I bought I was only extremely happy with this shade.
Other things I mentioned in my video were products I raved about in my September blog post so I won't bore you with that again but I still used them a TON (if not daily) this month too! They are:
Maybelline Color Tattoo Cream Shadow in "Bad to the Bronze". This color is amazing and lasts all day long without creasing or fading. It does have 24 hour staying power as I have slept in this and it didn't come off until I removed it with a towelette the next morning! This is a shimmery shade so if you are a fan of matte eye shadows you might want to stay away from this color.
Physician's Formula Bronze Booster in Light/Medium. This has been one of the most natural bronzers I have ever used. It doesn't turn you orange or muddies your skin. It's just the perfect glow giving your skin a sun-kissed look.
Loreal Clean Artiste Waterproof & Long Wearing Eye Makeup remover. This stuff is the only thing that removes my mascara and liquid eyeliner. It's amazing and doesn't irritate my sensitive eyes. Great to use for those waterproof mascaras that are a PITA to remove!!
Loreal Voluminous False Lashes Waterproof mascara. OMG! I can't get enough of this stuff! It's awesome and gives me the fullest lashes of any mascara I have ever tried....and I have tried a lot! It's also the only waterproof mascara that I have found that doesn't bother my contacts/sensitive eyes. The only thing I can't stress enough is that you have to buy a good eye makeup remover to get this stuff off because it's stuck like glue on your lashes!
Wet n Wild H20 Proof Liquid Eyeliner in Ultra Black. I love this eyeliner and it's so easy to use with it's felt tip end. It goes on smoothly without transferring to your upper lid....however, once it's on, it isn't coming off -- it's like a Sharpie marker! Be sure to use a great eye makeup remover with this so you aren't tugging at your eyelids.
And there you have it; my beauty hits for October! Please be sure to check out my YouTube video and subscribe to my channel for future posts. Click here to watch my YouTube video!
